These Cranford's intrigue me, because I have no idea who they are or where they came from.  The James listed could be the brother of my Twiggs County John and William,  It is known that their brother was in Marion County by about 1835.  Did he settle in Jasper County for a while before moving to Marion County?  Who is Jessie?  Presumably a brother?

They don't appear to be the children of the previous Hardy Cranford as the ages do not match.  HArdy Cranford is also unknown, with no further record.

I found no other Cranford's listed but I also found this interesting item in the 1870 Census

FEARS, Berry 50 M Black Cannot read or write
Agnes 39? F Black " "
Cranford                 14 M " "
Nathan 10 M Black " "
M (?)   9 M Black

Notice that Cranford Fears (age 14 - Male) is not listed as Black.

An oversight, or possibly the son of Jessie or James  (Or some other Cranford who settled there between 1830 and 1870) who was being cared for by former slaves?

Also another Black male using Cranford as his first name.

CHAPMAN, Cranford 21     M Black Cannot read or write
Maria 18     F Mulatto " "
Caroline                 6/12  F Mulatto  Born in Jan
